Celebrating the Real Heroes: International Nurses Day!
-Public asked to “Shine a light”
This year, this day marks much more prominence for all the extraordinary dedication and unparalleled contributions the nurses have made to fight this pandemic (COVID-19) and rebuild lives.
International Nurses Day is celebrated across the world on 12th May,anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth, the founder of modern nursing. It is an internationally celebrated day to mark the contributions nurses make to the society.
The public, today, has been asked to “Shine a light”, to mark International Nurses Day, 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale and to recognise their efforts to tackle coronavirus. The request is in recognition of the World Health Organization having designated 2020 as International Year of the Nurse to mark the bicentenary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.
Chief nursing officer for England Ruth May has joined other leaders in urging people to shine a light from their window at 8:30pm, today, to mark the day and show their appreciation for nurses.
