NMC part 1 competence exam is a Computer Based Test (CBT) intended for nurses trained outside the European Economic Area. From April 5th, 2019, NMC announced a change in overall passing score and exam retake. The decision as to whether a candidate passes or fails the CBT is governed by an overall pass mark now. This means that a candidate must achieve an overall pass mark to pass the CBT.

                The format of exam retake has also changed. From now on, as part of one application, the candidate can have 3 attempts, with a minimum 10 days between each attempt. If the candidate is unsuccessful at their second CBT attempt, the application with the NMC will automatically close, but now they can have a third attempt, by sending an email to to request this option.
